INScape (former INS Building, now artist studios); Seattle, WA

This site in Seattle was built as an INS building and assay office. On the top floor, speculators from Alaska would bring their gold, have it melted down and weighed, and exchange it for cash. Meanwhile, the middle floors contained dormitory-style holding cells for primarily Chinese male immigrants. The bottom floor was used for waiting areas and offices. The space now houses artist studios.
